A Surge of Devotion in Barsana: Engagement Ceremony of Shri Radha–Giridhar Lal Enthralls Devotees, B Praak’s Bhajans Create a Divine Aura

Mathura/Barsana: The sacred town of Barsana, revered as the abode of Shri Radha Rani, is witnessing an extraordinary spiritual spectacle as waves of devotion sweep through the region. Renowned Bhagwat acharya Indresh Upadhyay is celebrating the grand five-day Byahula Utsav (divine wedding festival) of his revered deity, Shri Radha–Giridhar Lal Ji, with immense devotion and traditional splendor.

On the second day of the festival, January 12, the auspicious Lagna–Sagai (engagement) ceremony of Thakur Ji was performed with great joy and reverence. Thousands of devotees from across India and abroad gathered to witness the sacred rituals, transforming Barsana into a vibrant center of faith, devotion, and celebration.

The engagement rituals were conducted strictly in accordance with ancient Braj traditions and Vedic customs. The ceremony began with the ritual of Prashansa aur Prastaav, wherein the groom’s side symbolically sent the proposal of marriage to the bride’s family—Shri Radha Rani’s divine household. This was followed by Neg aur Dasturi, during which fruits, dry fruits, sweets, and ceremonial offerings were presented. The unique Braj tradition of playful gaali (ritual banter) and light-hearted humor added a lively and joyous charm to the proceedings, filling the atmosphere with devotion and delight.

B Praak’s Soulful Bhajans Mesmerize the Gathering

One of the major highlights of the evening was the soulful performance by celebrated Bollywood singer B Praak. His deeply moving bhajans left the devotees spellbound, creating an atmosphere of intense spiritual emotion. Along with B Praak, noted artists Nikunj Kamra and Aarushi Gambhir also offered their musical tributes at the lotus feet of Thakur Ji. The harmonious blend of devotion and music elevated the grandeur of the festival to new heights.

Grand Arrangements for Devotees

The festival, which commenced on January 11, will continue until January 15. Describing the event as a “Mahakumbh of Bhakti”, Indresh Upadhyay emphasized that the celebration transcends personal joy and stands as a collective spiritual experience for devotees. The coming days will witness the grand baraat, haldi ceremony, and the divine wedding of Shri Radha–Giridhar Lal Ji.

To serve the thousands of visiting devotees, elaborate arrangements have been made, including the offering of Chhappan Bhog and a massive community feast (bhandara). As Barsana resonates with chants, music, and devotion, the Byahula Utsav continues to stand as a magnificent symbol of faith, tradition, and divine celebration.
