Scientific Study Underway to Free Jaipur’s Three Major Dams from Water Pollution

Jaipur (Rajasthan), Jan 31: In a significant step towards environmental conservation, authorities in Jaipur have initiated a comprehensive scientific study of the city’s three major dams—Kanota, Chandlai, and Nevta—to assess ways to make them free from water pollution and evaluate their long-term potential for conservation and development. Officials confirmed the details on Saturday.

The study is being conducted by experts from a central government-authorized agency, who are employing advanced scientific methods to examine the water quality, ecosystem health, and structural integrity of the dams. The assessment aims not only to address the pressing issue of pollution but also to explore sustainable measures for maintaining the dams for years to come.

Officials stated that upon completion of the study, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be submitted to the Rajasthan state government. The DPR is expected to provide actionable recommendations, including strategies for water purification, ecological restoration, and long-term management to ensure the dams continue to serve as reliable water sources while supporting local biodiversity.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance urban water security and promote environmental sustainability in Jaipur, where rapid urbanization and industrial activity have increasingly threatened water bodies. By scientifically assessing the dams, the government hopes to implement measures that will safeguard the city’s water resources and prevent further ecological degradation.

Environmentalists have welcomed the move, emphasizing that such studies are critical for ensuring safe drinking water, improving aquatic life, and preserving the dams as vital ecological and recreational spaces for the city.

Authorities said that the project is expected to conclude in the coming months, after which the state government will initiate necessary measures for pollution control, rehabilitation, and long-term maintenance of the three dams.
