9-Year-Old Girl Found Hanging in Kanpur; Investigation Launched, Grandmother Missing

Kanpur: A shocking incident has come to light in Ghatampur, Kanpur, where a 9-year-old girl was found hanging in a room, raising questions of murder or suicide. The police have launched a detailed investigation into the matter.

Incident Discovered by College Watchman

The child’s body was found in the premises of a degree college by the watchman, who immediately informed the police. The college is currently closed. The girl, who lived with her grandmother, was discovered hanging from a makeshift noose in a room within the college campus. Forensic teams have collected evidence, and the body has been sent for post-mortem.

Child Lived with Grandmother

According to Manjeet, the father of the girl, his daughter, born from his wife Laxmi’s first marriage, was living happily with her grandmother Mamta at the college premises near Barnav Mod, Ghatampur. He mentioned that he had visited the campus during Rakshabandhan, when the girl appeared cheerful. Late Monday night, the watchman called to inform him about the incident, after which he and his wife rushed to the scene.

Grandmother Missing; Family Suspects Foul Play

The girl’s grandmother is currently missing, raising suspicions. Manjeet stated that despite repeated calls, her phone is switched off. The child’s mother and maternal uncle have alleged that the grandmother, who was reportedly addicted to alcohol, may have been involved in some wrongdoing, which could have led to the child’s death.

Family Raises Doubts About Suicide

The family claims that the height at which the noose was placed makes it impossible for the girl to have hanged herself. They also noted that furniture was moved, items were scattered, and the television was on in the room, leading them to suspect homicide rather than suicide.

Police Investigation Underway

Inspector Dinesh Singh Bisht of Ghatampur police stated that all aspects of the case are being investigated. Forensic teams have collected evidence, and the cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report. The police are also searching for the missing grandmother and hope to resolve the case soon.

JCP Statement

Joint Police Commissioner (Crime & HQ) Vinod Kumar confirmed that the police have taken possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. He added that the child lived with her grandmother, who is currently untraceable, and that a thorough investigation is underway.
