710-Metre Underpass to Be Built Beneath Parthala Signature Bridge in Noida; Major Relief Expected From Traffic Jams

Noida: In a major step toward easing traffic congestion, the Noida Authority has approved plans to construct a 710-metre-long, six-lane underpass beneath the Parthala Signature Bridge. The move comes following directives from Noida Authority CEO Dr. Lokesh M., who instructed officials last week to begin work on planning and design.

The underpass is being proposed in anticipation of increased vehicular pressure once the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway becomes fully operational. Authorities believe the new infrastructure will significantly improve traffic flow near the busy Parthala roundabout.

Traffic Bottlenecks Increasing Beneath the Bridge

The Parthala Signature Bridge connects Sector 71 with Kisan Chowk and has become a critical traffic point. Currently, heavy congestion is reported during morning and evening peak hours. Vehicles are often stopped one-by-one to allow safe passage, causing long queues.

Additionally, the cut between Noida Sector 71 and Sorakha has been closed, forcing commuters to travel up to Chijarsi on the FNG Highway to take a U-turn—adding time, distance, and inconvenience. The Authority acknowledges that this frequent bottleneck necessitates a long-term structural solution, prompting the decision to build the underpass.

Project Details: Six Lanes, 710 Metres, and DPR in Progress

According to Noida Authority officials, the proposed underpass will extend 710 metres in length and feature six lanes to accommodate future traffic growth. A detailed PowerPoint presentation is currently being prepared and will soon be placed before the CEO.

Following approval, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be drafted, after which the budget and execution timeline will be finalized. With the FNG project expected to increase traffic volume substantially, the underpass is seen as essential to maintaining smooth vehicular movement in the area.

FNG Corridor to Increase Traffic Load

The FNG Expressway, designed to link Noida, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad, is progressing at different speeds across regions. While 60–70% of the work in Noida is already complete, construction in Faridabad has not yet started. Once finished, the route is expected to see a sharp rise in traffic, making upgraded infrastructure like the Parthala underpass unavoidable.

In view of these developments, the Noida Authority has initiated groundwork to ensure that the city’s traffic management remains future-ready and uninterrupted.
