67 Goats Rescued from Overloaded Pickup at MP-UP Border; Legal Action Underway

A tense situation erupted on Sunday evening at the MP-UP border near Semariya Jagannath Wasi village when locals and Bajrang Dal volunteers intercepted a suspicious pickup truck carrying 67 goats crammed inside. The animals were reportedly being transported in inhumane conditions, prompting immediate action.

Suspicious Vehicle Stopped by Locals

Villagers noticed the overloaded pickup and, alarmed by the goats’ cries, suspected illegal activity. They quickly called Bajrang Dal volunteers, and together they stopped the vehicle.

Jurisdiction Confusion at the Border

Upon receiving the report, Kohhi and Markundi police from Uttar Pradesh and the Chitrakoot police from Madhya Pradesh rushed to the scene. However, since the incident occurred on Uttar Pradesh territory, the Madhya Pradesh police had to return without taking action.

Driver Lacked Permits

The pickup driver was found without any legal permits or documents to transport the animals. All 67 goats were safely removed and handed over to UP police. The truck was seized by Markundi police, and a case has been registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and provisions for illegal animal transport. Investigation is ongoing.

Local Support Ensured Safety

The villagers, along with Bajrang Dal volunteers—including Prabandh Sah Sanyojak Vipin Pandey, Devansh Pandey, Bhura Garg, Rajju Garg, and Dhananjay Pandey—ensured that the goats were unharmed. The police confirmed that all animals are currently in safe custody and that further legal proceedings will follow.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about illegal livestock transport in border areas and the vital role of community vigilance in preventing cruelty to animals.
