Ranchi, February 23, 2026: In a remarkable act of courage and humanity, a grieving father in Ranchi transformed personal loss into a beacon of hope for others. Sujit Munda, father of a six-year-old boy who passed away due to a brain tumor, consented to donate his son’s eyes. Through this selfless decision, the young child became the youngest eye donor in the history of Ranchi’s RIMS hospital, giving the gift of sight to two visually impaired individuals.
Fighting a Brave Battle
The child had been undergoing treatment at RIMS’ Neurosurgery Department for a serious brain tumor. Despite the doctors’ best efforts, the boy succumbed to his illness. In the emotional aftermath, Sujit Munda made a life-affirming decision: to honor his son’s desire to witness the world by allowing his eyes to help others see.
“My son wanted to see and experience this beautiful world,” said Sujit Munda. “He may no longer be with us, but if someone else can view this world through his eyes, that will be his true farewell.”
Swift Action by RIMS Eye Bank
The RIMS Eye Bank team immediately initiated the donation process. Within just three hours, all procedures were successfully completed, ensuring that the young donor’s eyes could help those in need.
Dr. Sunil Kumar, Head of RIMS Ophthalmology, confirmed that both eyes were successfully transplanted.
Two Lives Transformed
The donated eyes restored sight to:
- Alok Kumar from Palamu, who lost his vision six years ago due to an infection.
- Basanti Mahto, 39, from East Singhbhum, who had been visually impaired for six months.
The entire transplantation procedure was conducted free of cost, highlighting the life-changing potential of organ donation.
Legacy of Compassion
Though he lost his young son, Sujit Munda’s courage and the child’s gift of sight have created a lasting legacy. The act serves as a poignant reminder that even in tragedy, humanity can illuminate the lives of others.
This six-year-old’s final contribution teaches the world the profound meaning of life: to light the path for others, even in the darkest times.
