35 Students Injure Themselves at Chhattisgarh Government School, Investigation Underway

Dhamtari, Chhattisgarh: In a troubling incident, 35 students at a government school in Dahdaha village, Kurud block, Dhamtari district, reportedly injured their wrists using sharp objects. The case, which had gone unnoticed for some time, came to light after a parent lodged a complaint with the authorities.

Officials revealed that the injuries were first observed on February 13, when parents noticed marks on their children’s wrists. Upon investigation, the school management discovered that multiple students had deliberately harmed themselves. The matter was immediately reported to the district administration.

Following the report, a team comprising district officials, education department representatives, and medical professionals visited the school. It was found that the students had copied each other’s actions approximately a month ago. Fortunately, the children’s injuries have mostly healed, with only scars remaining.

Officials believe that the students’ actions were influenced by observing their peers rather than any external factors. “The large number of students involved is concerning,” said Suraj Banchhor, Tehsildar of Kurud. “All students are currently in good health, and their wounds are healing.”

The district administration has advised parents and teachers to closely monitor the students. A counseling session was conducted for all affected children on February 16, and further investigation into the causes—including possible substance influence—is ongoing, according to block education officer Chandra Kumar Sahu.

Authorities are continuing to examine the incident and are working to ensure the students’ safety and psychological well-being.
