
Sagar: A shocking case of alleged sexual assault involving a 12-year-old girl has emerged from a government-run tribal girls’ hostel in Khurai town of Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. Police say the Class 8 student was repeatedly assaulted over several months and was found to be three months pregnant when taken for medical treatment.
According to investigators, the girl, a resident of Vidisha district, had been staying at the hostel for the past two years. In her statement to police, she alleged that a man who supplied vegetables to the hostel entered her room in September 2025 and threatened her before assaulting her. She said the accused continued to exploit her whenever he found an opportunity, warning her not to tell anyone.
Case came to light after medical emergency
The incident surfaced after the child’s health deteriorated and she was taken to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal for treatment. During medical examination, doctors discovered that the minor was pregnant. Hospital authorities alerted police, after which her statement was recorded at Koh-e-Fiza police station and a zero FIR was registered. The case diary was later transferred to Khurai police station for further action.
Accused booked under POCSO Act
Khurai police have arrested the accused, identified as Altaf, and registered a case under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, rape, and criminal intimidation. Officials confirmed that further investigation is underway.
The incident has raised serious questions about safety and supervision at the government hostel. District authorities and the education department have ordered an inquiry. A special investigation team has been formed and has begun recording statements of the hostel warden, staff, and other concerned personnel.
