Jalaun, UP: In a tragic incident from Jalaun district, a 16-year-old 11th-grade student lost her life after consuming poison due to frustration over not receiving an iPhone she had demanded. The student had reportedly given her father a two-day ultimatum to fulfill her request. Unable to meet her demand, the father’s inability led the teenager to take the extreme step. She was admitted to Jhansi Medical College, where she later succumbed during treatment.
Incident Details
The incident occurred in Kusmiliya village under Dakor police station. The student, Maya (approx. 16 years old), had been persistently asking her parents to buy her an expensive iPhone. According to family members, she warned her father two days prior that she would end her life if her demand was not met. The parents, unable to purchase the phone immediately, tried to reason with her, not anticipating that she would act on her threat.
Poisoning and Medical Response
On Saturday, when her parents left for work, Maya allegedly consumed a poisonous substance at home. Alarmed by her deteriorating condition, her parents rushed her first to Urwai Medical College, which referred her to Jhansi Medical College due to the severity of her condition. Unfortunately, she passed away during treatment.
Police Action
The police arrived at the scene and took custody of the body. On Sunday, around 3:30 PM, the body was sent for post-mortem examination. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Father’s Statement
Speaking after the tragedy, Maya’s father, Tulsi Ram, said, “My daughter was adamant about getting the iPhone. I had offered to buy her another mobile, but she refused and insisted on an iPhone. We tried to fulfill her every wish, but this time, we couldn’t, and she took this extreme step.”
This incident highlights the increasing pressures faced by teenagers and the urgent need for parental guidance and mental health awareness.
