101st Tansen Music Festival to Celebrate Five Days of Melody, Rhythm, and Tradition in Gwalior

Gwalior, MP: The city of music maestro Tansen is all set to host the 101st edition of the Tansen Music Festival, promising a five-day celebration of classical music, rhythm, and heritage. The festival, one of the most prestigious events in Indian classical music, will run until 19 December 2025, enchanting music lovers with its rich legacy of sur–taal (melody and rhythm).

This year, the main stage has been constructed near the Tansen Samadhi complex, with a design inspired by the Chaturbhuj Temple of Gwalior Fort, a historic site known for its association with the concept of zero. Renowned artists honored with Padma Vibhushan, Padma Shri, and Shikhar Awards will perform, adding grandeur to the event.

Festival Opening on 15 December

The festival will formally commence on Monday, 15 December, at 6 PM. Preceding this, a prelude session was held at Datt Temple, Gwalior, on Sunday. In keeping with tradition, the opening ceremony begins in the morning at Tansen’s Samadhi in Hajira, featuring shehnai recitals, storytelling by Dholibuwa Maharaj, Milad readings, and Chadarposhi rituals. The evening program at the main stage will commence with a lamp-lighting ceremony followed by classical music performances by esteemed guests.

Five-Day Festival Highlights

  • A total of 10 music sessions will be held over the five days.
  • On 18 December, parallel music sessions will take place at the Tansen Samadhi complex and Bateshwar Temple, Morena.
  • The final day will feature a morning session at Tansen’s birthplace in Behat and a closing evening concert at the Gujri Mahal complex.
  • Performances by renowned national artists promise to make the festival a memorable celebration of Indian classical music.

The Tansen Music Festival continues to be a grand confluence of heritage, devotion, and music, connecting audiences with the timeless art of Indian classical traditions.
