10-Foot King Cobra Pair Rescued from Ghazipur Village Home, Loud Hissing Sends Residents Into Panic

Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh: A wave of panic swept through Gaura village in Suhawal police jurisdiction on Tuesday afternoon when a male and female King Cobra, each nearly 10 feet long, emerged from a residential home. The hissing pair slithered into the courtyard, terrifying the residents. Promptly, villagers alerted the Forest Department, which rushed to the site.

Rescue Operation by Forest Team

Under the leadership of Regional Forest Officer JSP Verma, a team including Forest Inspector Ashok Kumar Yadav, Forest Assistants Ajit Kumar Rai, Dara Rai, and Forest Guard Samuddin, along with half a dozen staff members, reached the village. Curious onlookers gathered in hundreds, but the fearsome hissing of the cobras kept everyone at a safe distance.

After nearly two hours of careful effort, the team successfully rescued both King Cobras. Each snake was secured in a separate container, temporarily brought to the police station, and later released in a natural habitat near Tadighat forest by the Ganga river, ensuring their safety and the villagers’ peace of mind.

Dangerous Species, Important Precautions

RFO JSP Verma warned that King Cobras are highly venomous; without prompt treatment, a bite can prove fatal within half an hour. The snakes had strayed from the forest into the village in search of prey. He added that the average lifespan of this species is around 10 years, and they can cover 19–20 km in just one hour if moving continuously.

The villagers of Gaura breathed a sigh of relief after the successful rescue, grateful for the swift action of the Forest Department.
