₹2,598 Crore Boost for Jhansi Railway Division in Union Budget, Major Push to Redevelopment Projects

Jhansi, Feb 3:
The Union Budget has brought a major development boost for the Jhansi Railway Division, with an allocation of ₹2,598 crore aimed at accelerating key railway infrastructure projects, including gauge conversion, line doubling and station redevelopment.

According to railway officials, the allocated budget is 11 per cent higher than last year, reflecting the Centre’s strong focus on strengthening rail connectivity and passenger facilities in the region.

A significant portion of the budget has been earmarked for station redevelopment projects. The Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi Railway Station has received ₹150 crore for modernization, while Gwalior Railway Station has been allotted ₹100 crore and Khajuraho Railway Station ₹120 crore for redevelopment works.

Jhansi Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Aniruddh Kumar shared details of the budget allocation during a press conference held on Monday. He stated that sufficient funds have been provided for major ongoing projects such as the Gwalior–Sheopur gauge conversion, Jhansi–Bina third railway line, and Jhansi–Manikpur line doubling, which are expected to significantly improve rail capacity and operational efficiency.

The budget also prioritizes passenger amenities and safety-related works. Under various heads, allocations include ₹500 crore for gauge conversion, ₹645.57 crore for railway line doubling, ₹300 crore for traffic facility development, ₹20.36 crore for road safety works, ₹200 crore for construction of Road Over Bridges (ROB) and Road Under Bridges (RUB), and ₹254 crore for track renewal.

Additionally, ₹60.75 crore has been sanctioned for bridge-related works, ₹53 crore for signalling projects, ₹123.23 crore for electrical works, and ₹10 crore for workshops. Provisions have also been made for employee welfare, passenger conveniences, and other development initiatives.

The DRM expressed confidence that all major railway projects currently underway in the Jhansi Division will be completed by 2026–27, paving the way for improved connectivity, enhanced safety, and better travel experience for passengers.
