Pune: Parth Pawar, son of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, has landed in serious legal trouble after the state’s Department of Registration and Stamps directed his firm, Amadeya Enterprises LLP, to pay ₹21 crore in stamp duty and an additional ₹1.47 crore as penalty. The case pertains to the sale of 40 acres of prime land in the upscale Mundhwa region of Pune.
The department has also imposed seven months’ interest on the outstanding amount. The firm has been granted 60 days to make the payment, failing which the penalty will continue to rise.
Discrepancies Found in Mundhwa Land Deal
The order followed a probe into a land transaction in which Sheetal Tejwani sold the 40-acre plot to Amadeya Enterprises LLP. According to officials, Parth Pawar’s company had purchased the land for ₹300 crore, while the actual market value was assessed at ₹1,804 crore—raising questions over the unusually low purchase price and potential preferential treatment.
Adding to the controversy, the company was charged only ₹500 as stamp duty on the ₹300-crore deal. Within just two days of the transaction, the firm was granted stamp duty concessions on the grounds of setting up a data center.
Land Categorized Under ‘Watan’ Property
Investigators also found that the land falls under the ‘Watan’ category, traditionally reserved for the Mahar community. Under the Bombay Inferior Village Watans Abolition Act, 1958, such land cannot be sold without prior government approval, making the deal legally questionable.
Opposition Targets Government
Opposition parties have launched a sharp attack on the state government, demanding that the land be reclaimed by the state and criminal cases be filed against those involved. The issue escalated after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the government of “land theft” and called for accountability.
With the order now in effect, Parth Pawar’s firm faces mounting financial and legal challenges, even as political temperatures continue to rise over the alleged irregularities.
