New Delhi: Zimbabwe produced one of the biggest upsets of the T20 World Cup 2026 by defeating Australia by 23 runs at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The surprising victory has now fueled fresh hopes in the Pakistan camp ahead of the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash scheduled for February 15 at the same venue.
Zimbabwe’s remarkable performance against a youthful Australian side has become a major talking point across the cricketing world. Soon after the match, former Pakistan batter Mohammad Yousuf took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and hinted that Pakistan could also pull off a similar upset against India.
Yousuf wrote that Zimbabwe’s win proves that even the biggest teams can be defeated if the opponents play with confidence and execute their plans well. He added that rivalries are not won on paper but on the field, and questioned whether Pakistan could show the same intensity and determination to beat India.
India Dominates World Cup Rivalry Against Pakistan
Historically, India has dominated Pakistan in World Cup encounters. Pakistan has managed to defeat India only once in World Cup history — during the 2021 T20 World Cup. Their last victory over India came in the Asia Cup 2022, after which the two teams have played nine matches, with India winning eight and one match ending without a result.
Out of those eight victories, five were in T20 Internationals, highlighting India’s stronghold in the shortest format of the game. India also defeated Pakistan three times in last year’s Asia Cup.
Both Teams Off to a Strong Start
Both India and Pakistan have started their T20 World Cup 2026 campaigns in impressive fashion. India, the defending champions and currently the No. 1 T20 team in the world, has won both its matches so far. Pakistan has also registered two wins in two games, indicating that the upcoming contest could be a high-intensity battle.
With momentum on both sides and Zimbabwe’s victory serving as a reminder of cricket’s unpredictability, the stage is set for yet another thrilling chapter in the legendary India-Pakistan rivalry.
