WPL 2026 Highlights: Gujarat Giants Bounce Back with Win Over UP Warriors, Playoff Hopes for UP Dented

Vadodara: After suffering three consecutive defeats, Gujarat Giants finally got back to winning ways in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, defeating UP Warriors by 45 runs in their 14th match of the season at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium. The victory propelled Gujarat from the bottom of the points table straight to second place, earning six points from six matches.

Gujarat Post Competitive Total
Gujarat batted first after losing the toss and scored 153 for 8 in their allotted overs. Openers Beth Mooney and Daniel Wyatt-Hodge added 23 runs in the initial three overs before Hodge was dismissed for 14. Mooney continued to build small partnerships, contributing 38 runs off 34 balls, including 5 boundaries.

The star of the innings, Sophie Devine, anchored the middle order, scoring an unbeaten 50 off 42 balls, featuring 3 sixes and 2 boundaries, reaching her half-century on the last ball of the innings.

In bowling, Kranti Gaud and Sophie Ecclestone claimed 2 wickets each, while Deepti Sharma and Chloe Tryon took 1 wicket apiece.

UP Warriors Collapse in Chase
Chasing 154, UP Warriors struggled, losing wickets at regular intervals and were all out for 108 in just 17.3 overs. Kiren fell for a duck, giving UP an early setback, marking their third zero in the last four matches. Captain Meg Lanning managed only 14 runs, while Phoebe Litchfield top-scored with 32 off 27 balls. Chloe Tryon remained unbeaten on 30.

Gujarat’s Rajeshwari Gaikwad led the bowling attack with 3 wickets, while Renuka Thakur and Sophie Devine picked up 2 wickets each, restricting UP to a below-par total.

With this win, Gujarat Giants revived their playoff hopes, while UP Warriors now face an uphill battle to qualify for the next stage of WPL 2026.
