WPL 2026: Ellyse Perry Withdraws from League, Playing T20 in New Zealand

Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, has withdrawn from the tournament citing personal reasons. Perry, who was set to earn ₹2 crore from the franchise, informed RCB of her decision before the league commenced. The team confirmed her withdrawal through an official social media post and has signed Saiyli Satghare as her replacement.

Playing in New Zealand’s Super Smash
Perry is currently featuring in New Zealand’s domestic T20 competition, the Super Smash, representing the Wellington Women’s team. The 35-year-old star has played four matches so far, scoring 39, 19, 14, and 31 runs, while also claiming 6 wickets. On January 9, the day RCB played their WPL opener against Mumbai Indians, Perry was actively on the field in New Zealand.

Before withdrawing, Perry sent a heartfelt message to her RCB teammates, wishing them success:
“Hey team, all the best for tonight’s match and the entire league. I hope you have a wonderful time. You have the best fans in the world, and I know they’ll be cheering for you. I’ll be supporting you from home. Play well and have fun!”

Ellyse Perry’s WPL Legacy
Perry is regarded as one of the finest women cricketers in the world. She played a pivotal role in RCB’s 2024 championship-winning campaign, finishing the season as the second-highest run-scorer in the league. Over 25 matches, she amassed 972 runs at an average of 64.80 and a strike rate of 133, including 8 half-centuries. As a bowler, she has taken 14 wickets and holds the record for the best bowling figures in WPL history—6 wickets for 14 runs against Mumbai Indians in the 2024 season.

Perry’s absence in WPL 2026 will be felt, but her ongoing performances in the Super Smash highlight her unwavering dedication to the game.
