New Delhi: With the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan encounter in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 confirmed for February 15, Team India is now focusing on the major on-field challenges that lie ahead. India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has admitted that Pakistan could enjoy a significant advantage in Colombo, calling it one of the biggest threats for India ahead of the blockbuster contest.
The match will be played in Colombo, and according to the Indian camp, Pakistan’s extended stay in the city may prove crucial.
Pakistan’s Extended Stay in Colombo Could Help Them
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Ten Doeschate pointed out that Pakistan has been stationed in Colombo for the past two weeks, giving them valuable time to understand local conditions.
“Pakistan have been in Colombo for the last 14 days, which gives them a better understanding of the conditions,” the coach stated.
Pakistan have already played their opening matches on Colombo grounds, helping them adapt to the hot and humid weather, as well as the pitch behaviour in the region.
Political Drama Did Not Affect India’s Preparation
Ten Doeschate made it clear that the ongoing boycott controversy over the last ten days did not impact India’s mental preparation.
He said the team never altered its training routine and always believed the match would take place as scheduled.
“We never changed our preparation. We always trained with the mindset that the game would happen,” he said.
He also added that the Indian team has deliberately stayed away from political issues to ensure the players remain focused solely on cricket.
Tight Schedule Puts India Under Pressure
Unlike Pakistan, India has a packed schedule. The Indian team will play Namibia in Delhi on February 12 and will have to travel immediately after the match.
India is expected to reach Colombo on February 13, leaving them with only one day of practice before the clash at the Premadasa Stadium on February 15.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has received a longer break, with four full days of rest after their second group match, giving them additional recovery and preparation time.
India Holds Strong Record Against Pakistan
Despite Pakistan’s possible advantage in conditions, India enters the match with strong confidence. Since October 2022, India has won its last five T20 matches against Pakistan, holding a dominant 5-0 record.
This impressive winning streak under captain Suryakumar Yadav is expected to boost India’s morale, even if Pakistan appears better prepared in Colombo.
Big Clash Awaits
With both teams carrying different advantages — Pakistan’s familiarity with Colombo conditions and India’s superior recent record — the India vs Pakistan match is expected to be one of the most intense battles of the tournament.
Now, all eyes will be on whether Pakistan can make use of their extended preparation, or if India will continue their winning dominance in this fierce rivalry.
