New Delhi/Colombo: Ahead of the high-octane India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 clash, Pakistan’s off-spinner Usman Tariq was under intense scrutiny. Many expected Tariq’s unorthodox action to trouble the Indian batsmen, but he failed to make a major impact.
Tariq’s Quiet Performance
Tariq bowled 4 overs, conceding 24 runs and picking up a single wicket. The Indian batsmen approached him with composure, preventing him from making breakthroughs. Notably, Tariq’s bowling came late in the innings; he delivered his first over only in India’s 11th over.
Coach Mike Hesson Responds
After the match, Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson explained Tariq’s role in the team. “Usman has a very specific role for us. He thrives when batsmen attack him,” said Hesson. “Could he have bowled in the powerplay? Yes. But Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan did a great job in that phase. They each bowled one over, which wasn’t ideal for Tariq. I will back him any day. Today, he bowled really well in the situation we asked him to.”
