New Delhi: Cricket witnessed a rare and interesting moment during the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, when former Pakistan international Ehsan Adil made his debut for the United States of America (USA) — and that too against the country he once represented on the world stage.
The 12th match of the tournament was played on February 10 at the SAC Ground, Colombo, where Pakistan defeated USA by 32 runs, registering their second consecutive victory in the World Cup. Despite Pakistan’s win, it was Ehsan Adil’s story that became the highlight of the match.
Born in Pakistan, Now Playing Against Pakistan
Ehsan Adil, born in Sheikhupura, Pakistan in 1993, has previously played international cricket for Pakistan. In a surprising twist, he now appeared in USA colours, making his T20 debut for America against his former team.
His journey has attracted attention as it is uncommon for a player to represent one nation in World Cups and later play against the same country for another international side.
Ehsan Adil’s Career for Pakistan
Ehsan Adil made his Test debut in 2013 for Pakistan against South Africa. During his Test career, he played 3 matches and picked up 5 wickets.
He also made his ODI debut in 2013 against Scotland and went on to play 6 One-Day Internationals, taking 4 wickets.
Notably, Adil was also part of Pakistan’s squad in the 2015 ODI World Cup, where he featured in two matches, adding another major milestone to his cricketing career.
Tough Start for Adil in USA Debut
However, his debut match for USA did not go as planned. Bowling against Pakistan’s strong batting lineup, Adil conceded 39 runs in 3 overs, failing to make an impact with the ball.
Still, his presence in the match remained a major talking point, as fans and experts discussed his unique transition from playing for Pakistan to representing USA on the international stage.
Match Summary: Pakistan Beat USA by 32 Runs
USA captain Monank Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first. Pakistan posted a competitive total of 190 runs for 9 wickets in their 20 overs.
Chasing a target of 191, USA managed 158 runs for 8 wickets, falling short by 32 runs. This defeat marked USA’s second consecutive loss in the tournament.
With this win, Pakistan strengthened its position in the tournament and continued its strong momentum.
