While the World Cup Heats Up, Devdutt Padikkal Smashes Double Century in Ranji Trophy Semifinal

New Delhi/Lucknow: Amid the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026, domestic cricket is quietly producing its own fireworks. In the Ranji Trophy semifinal at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, Devdutt Padikkal showcased his sublime form, scoring a remarkable double century against Uttarakhand.

Padikkal’s Masterclass

On the second day of the match, Padikkal remained unbeaten on 202 runs off 297 balls, striking 25 fours and 2 sixes. His bat has been in relentless form, consistently producing big innings and anchoring Karnataka’s chase.

India Team Status

The 25-year-old Padikkal has been out of the national team since making his Test debut in 2024, where he scored 90 runs across two matches. His last Test appearance was during India’s 2024 tour of Australia. In T20Is, he debuted in 2021 and has scored 29 runs in two matches. His current form, however, suggests that a recall to the national side could be imminent.

KL Rahul Shines Alongside

Opening alongside Padikkal, experienced batter KL Rahul also delivered a spectacular performance. Rahul scored 141 runs off 211 balls, including 11 fours and 5 sixes, anchoring Karnataka’s innings. Rahul remains a key member of India’s Test and ODI squads and was recently assigned a B-grade central contract for 2025-26 by the BCCI.

With Padikkal and Rahul dominating the Ranji Trophy semifinal, Karnataka has positioned itself strongly for a place in the final, proving that India’s domestic cricket continues to produce world-class talent even during the T20 World Cup frenzy.
