W, W, W! Sam Curran’s Stunning Hat-Trick Sends Warning Ahead of T20 World Cup

England’s star all-rounder Sam Curran produced a sensational performance in the first T20 International against Sri Lanka, claiming a memorable hat-trick and creating a wave of concern among rival teams just a week before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup.

In a rain-affected contest, reduced to 17 overs per side, England defeated Sri Lanka by 11 runs via the DLS method. Curran played a decisive role in the victory, delivering a match-winning spell that turned the game firmly in England’s favour.

Curran Creates History

Sam Curran became only the second England bowler to take a hat-trick in T20 Internationals. Before him, Chris Jordan had achieved the feat in 2024. Curran dismissed Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana on consecutive deliveries, dismantling Sri Lanka’s lower order at a crucial stage of the match.

The hat-trick came in the 19th over, a phase where pressure was at its peak. Interestingly, Curran had conceded 20 runs earlier but showed remarkable composure and resilience to bounce back strongly, underlining his experience and temperament in high-pressure situations.

Boost for England Ahead of World Cup

Curran’s spell could not have come at a better time for England, who are fine-tuning their squad ahead of the global tournament. His ability to deliver under pressure, combined with his all-round skills, adds significant strength to England’s World Cup campaign.

Elite Company

With this performance, Curran joined an elite list of bowlers who have taken T20I hat-tricks against Sri Lanka. The list includes Jacob Oram (New Zealand), Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Hasnain (Pakistan), Karthik Meiyappan (UAE) and Lockie Ferguson (New Zealand). Curran is now the sixth bowler to achieve this milestone against Sri Lanka in the shortest format.

As the T20 World Cup draws closer, Sam Curran’s fiery spell has sent out a clear message: England’s bowling attack is peaking at the right time, and opponents will need to be at their best to counter the threat.
