New Delhi: India’s former captain and prolific run-machine Virat Kohli is back in scintillating form reminiscent of his 2016 peak. In the third ODI against New Zealand at Holkar Stadium, Indore, Kohli produced yet another masterclass, smashing his 85th international century.
Kohli’s innings came off 91 balls, during which he struck 10 fours and 3 sixes, scoring 124 runs before being dismissed. This was also his 54th ODI century, underlining his consistency and dominance on the global stage.
Breaking Sehwag’s Record
The 37-year-old superstar also broke a long-standing record held by India legend Virender Sehwag. Previously, Sehwag held the record for the most centuries by an Indian in ODIs against New Zealand, with six. Kohli now tops the list with 7 centuries against the Kiwis, becoming the highest century-maker for India in India-New Zealand ODIs.
Most Centuries Against New Zealand in ODIs
Before this innings, the record for most ODI centuries against New Zealand was jointly held by Ricky Ponting, Virender Sehwag, and Virat Kohli, each with six. Kohli’s latest ton ensures he now leads the pack. On home soil, this century marked Kohli’s 41st in India, just one short of Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 42 centuries in India, keeping him tantalizingly close to the ultimate domestic milestone.
Kohli’s flawless technique, relentless hunger for runs, and ability to rise under pressure continue to make him the cornerstone of India’s batting lineup as the team looks to chase down big targets and dominate in ODIs.
