Mumbai / Ranchi / Across India: The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, India’s premier domestic one-day tournament, witnessed high drama across multiple venues today, January 6, as 32 teams in the Elite Group played 16 matches and the Plate Group final took place in Ranchi.

Arjun Tendulkar Opens for Goa but Fails to Impress
In a disappointing outing for Goa, Arjun Tendulkar, given the responsibility of opening the innings, managed just 1 run before being dismissed. Fellow opener Kashyap Bakle also struggled, scoring only 5 runs. Both wickets fell to Sukhdeep Bajwa, leaving Goa at 22/2 after 4.1 overs.

Delhi Dominate Against Railway
In Alur, Delhi bowlers produced a stunning display, reducing Railway to 88/5 in 22 overs. Ishant Sharma was particularly economical, conceding only 5 runs in 4 overs and picking up a wicket. Support came from Harshit Rana, Navdeep Saini, Harsh Tyagi, and Ayub Badoni, each claiming a wicket. Veteran batsman Virat Kohli, who played Delhi’s opening two matches of the tournament, was absent from this fixture as he prepares for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand starting January 11.

Shreyas Iyer Returns for Mumbai
After recovering from an injury sustained during India’s tour of Australia, Shreyas Iyer made his return to the Mumbai side against Himachal Pradesh. The injury had kept him sidelined for over two months.

Plate Group Final: Bihar in Command
In Ranchi, Bihar faced Manipur in the Plate Group final. Despite the absence of Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Bihar’s bowlers put up a dominant performance, reducing Manipur to 39/6 in just 12 overs. Shabbir Khan starred with a remarkable 6-wicket haul for 17 runs in 5 overs, putting Bihar firmly in control.

Punjab Take Early Lead Against Goa
In the Elite Group clash at Jaipur, Punjab won the toss and opted to field against Goa. Veteran Indian captain Shubman Gill featured in the playing XI, along with left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, signaling a strong intent to dominate early.

Early Setbacks for Baroda
Baroda also faced a rocky start against Jammu & Kashmir. Nitya Pandya fell for 5, and Amit Pasi managed only 6 runs. Akib Nabi claimed both early wickets, leaving Baroda at 20/2 after 4 overs.
