
New Delhi: Vidarbha made history by winning the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, defeating Saurashtra by 38 runs in the final held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, Bengaluru. This is Vidarbha’s first-ever Vijay Hazare Trophy title, while Saurashtra, winners of the inaugural 2008 season and champions twice overall, had to settle for runners-up.
Astounding Batting by Atharv Tide
After losing the toss, Saurashtra captain Harvik Desai opted to field. Vidarbha posted a formidable 317 for 8 in their 50 overs. Opener Atharv Tide starred with a magnificent 128 off 118 balls, hitting 15 fours and 3 sixes. Ravikumar Samarth added 25 crucial runs, while Yash Rathore scored a valuable 54 off 50 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes, helping Vidarbha set a challenging target.
Saurashtra Fell Short in the Chase
Chasing 318, Saurashtra fell 38 runs short, being bowled out for 279 in 48.5 overs. Prerak Mankad top-scored with 88 runs (10 fours), while Chirag Jani also made a significant contribution of 64 off 63 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Bowling Heroics from Vidarbha
Vidarbha’s bowlers were relentless in defending their total. Yash Thakur led the charge, taking 4 wickets for 50 runs in 9.5 overs. Nachiket Bhute claimed 3 wickets, Darshan Nalakande took 2, and captain Harsh Dubey chipped in with 1 wicket, ensuring Saurashtra could not complete the chase.
Vidarbha’s historic triumph, led by stellar performances with both bat and ball, marks a new milestone for the team in India’s domestic cricket circuit.
