New Delhi, December 12, 2025: Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi lit up the Under-19 Asia Cup with a blistering 171-run knock against the UAE, smashing 14 sixes to create a new world record in Youth ODIs. However, his achievement stood for only a few hours as Pakistan’s Sameer Minhas surpassed it the very same day.
Vaibhav’s Firestorm in Dubai
Playing in the U19 Asia Cup 2025, the 17-year-old Indian opener hammered 171 off just 95 balls, reaching his century in only 56 deliveries. His 14 sixes set a new world record for the most sixes in a Youth ODI innings. Powered by Vaibhav’s explosive batting, India posted a mammoth 433 runs — the highest total in Youth ODIs — eclipsing their previous record of 425 against Scotland in Dhaka.
Aaron George and Vihaan Malhotra added valuable 69-run contributions each, supporting India’s record-breaking total.
Record Broken Within Hours
But the celebrations were short-lived. In Malaysia, Pakistan’s young opener Sameer Minhas delivered a stunning reply, scoring an unbeaten 177 off 148 balls against the hosts. His knock not only led Pakistan to 345/3 but also erased Vaibhav’s freshly minted record the same day.
Vaibhav’s Habit of Making History
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is no stranger to record books. At just 14, he smashed a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 108* off 61 balls against Maharashtra. He also holds the unique distinction of scoring three T20 hundreds before turning 15.
He further created headlines by becoming the youngest IPL player to score a fifty — at just 14 years and 32 days — breaking the previous mark held by captain Riyan Parag. Earlier today, Vaibhav broke Michael Hill’s 2008 record of 12 sixes in a Youth ODI, only to see Pakistani batter Minhas go past his tally just hours later.
