Uncertainty Over ICC Meeting as PCB Stalls on India Match Boycott

Pakistan has stirred a controversy ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, a move that could prove costly for the country. The Pakistan government announced that its team will boycott the February 15 match against India, while still participating in the tournament.

ICC’s Response
Following the announcement, the International Cricket Council (ICC) issued a statement warning Pakistan that such a decision will not be tolerated. The ICC added that strict action could be taken if Pakistan does not reconsider its stance.

However, according to a Cricbuzz report, there is still no clarity on the ICC’s upcoming meeting regarding this issue. The report also noted that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not officially informed the ICC of its intent to skip the India clash.

Government Directives to PCB
The PCB reportedly received direct instructions from the Pakistan government. While the government approved Pakistan’s participation in the T20 World Cup, it clearly ordered the team not to play against India. This directive was publicly shared via Pakistan government’s official social media accounts.

India to Travel Despite Boycott
The high-profile India-Pakistan clash is scheduled for 15 February at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Regardless of Pakistan’s stance, the Indian team is expected to travel to Sri Lanka and adhere to ICC protocols.

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Aga clarified that the team will follow the decisions of the government and PCB chief, stating it is not his personal decision. In the previous T20 World Cup encounter, India had narrowly defeated Pakistan by six runs, adding to the anticipation surrounding this fixture.
