Bulawayo, January 17, 2026: Indian teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has achieved another milestone in Under-19 cricket, surpassing former Indian captain Virat Kohli in the all-time youth One-Day International (ODI) run charts. This record-breaking feat came during India’s group-stage clash against Bangladesh in the U19 World Cup 2026.
At just 14 years of age, Suryavanshi opened the innings for India and scored heavily, taking his tally beyond Kohli’s mark. Virat Kohli played 28 youth ODIs for India between 2006 and 2008, amassing 978 runs in 24 innings at an average of 46.57, including one century and six half-centuries. In his 20th youth ODI match, Suryavanshi overtook Kohli’s total. Before this game, he had 975 runs from 19 innings, with three centuries and four fifties already to his name.
While Kohli once held the youth ODI record for India, the all-time highest run-scorer remains Vijay Zol, who scored 1,404 runs in 36 youth ODI innings and captained India in the 2014 U19 World Cup. Yashasvi Jaiswal follows with 1,386 runs, while other notable names like Tanmay Srivastava, Unmukt Chand, Shubman Gill, and Sarfaraz Khan have also crossed 1,000 runs. Suryavanshi has now joined this elite list, having accumulated over 1,000 runs at youth level.
Suryavanshi’s exploits extend beyond youth cricket. In senior cricket, he has played eight List A matches, scoring 353 runs at an average of 44, including a top score of 190. In 18 T20 matches, he has scored 701 runs at an average of 41 and a strike rate of 204, including three centuries and one half-century. He also holds the record for the fastest century by an Indian in the IPL.
With these achievements at just 14, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is widely regarded as one of India’s brightest young cricketing talents, and his performances in the U19 World Cup continue to draw global attention.
