
Harare: The 2026 Under-19 World Cup saw Pakistan open their account with a hard-fought win against Scotland, while South Africa and Sri Lanka recorded comfortable victories.
Pakistan vs Scotland:
Pakistan defeated Scotland by 6 wickets at the Takashinga Sports Club, but it was no easy task. After losing the toss, Scotland batted first and were restricted to 187 runs in 48.1 overs, with Ali Raza claiming 4 crucial wickets for Pakistan. Chasing 188, Pakistan reached the target in 43.1 overs. Openers were dismissed early with the score at 48, but Usman Khan held the innings together, scoring 75 runs off 85 balls. His partnership of 111 runs with Ahmed Hussain for the third wicket paved the way for Pakistan’s victory.
South Africa’s Massive Win:
South Africa crushed Tanzania by 329 runs in the 14th match of the tournament, marking the second-largest victory by runs in U19 World Cup history. The record is held by Australia, who defeated Kenya by 430 runs on January 20, 2002, while India’s 326-run win over Uganda on January 22, 2022, ranks third. Batting first, South Africa posted 397/5 in the allotted overs. Captain Mohammed Bulbulia scored 108 runs off 108 balls with 11 boundaries, and Jason Rawls remained unbeaten on 125 off 101 balls, including 5 sixes and 10 fours.
Sri Lanka vs Ireland:
Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by 106 runs at the Namibia Cricket Ground in the 13th match of the U19 World Cup 2026. After winning the toss, Sri Lanka scored 267/5 in their allotted overs. The team lost two wickets early at 17 runs, but captain Vimath Dinsara contributed 95 runs, and Chamika Heenatigala added an unbeaten 51 runs. Ireland was bowled out for 161 in the 41st over, with Dulnith Sigera taking 4 wickets.
