
Harare: Pakistan’s U19 team suffered a defeat in their opening match of the ICC U19 World Cup 2026, falling 37 runs short while chasing 211 against England. The match was played at the Takashinga Sports Club ground in Harare.
England, batting first, posted 210 runs before being bowled out in the 47th over. Pakistan, in reply, could manage only 173 runs, handing England a comfortable victory.
Falconer Stars for England
Pakistan’s bowlers troubled the English batting line-up early on. Opener Joseph Moors was dismissed for 7 off 16 balls, while Ben Dockins scored 33 runs off 38 deliveries. Captain Thomas Reu managed just 14 runs. With England struggling at 90 for 4, Caleb Falconer steadied the innings, adding 80 runs for the fifth-wicket partnership with Ralphy Albert. Falconer’s knock of 66 runs came off 73 balls, guiding England to a total of 210. For Pakistan, Ahmed Hussain took three wickets, while Ali Raza, Abdul Subhan, and Momin Qamar picked two wickets each.
Pakistan’s Batting Falters
Pakistan’s chase started poorly, with wickets falling consistently from the fourth over. Top-order batsman Sameer Minhas managed only 10 runs. Captain Farhan Yusuf fought a lone battle, scoring 65 runs off 86 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes, but no other batsman could cross the 20-run mark. Pakistan’s innings ended in the 47th over. Alex Green, James Minto, and Ralphy Albert took two wickets apiece, while two Pakistan batsmen were also run out.
Pakistan is placed in Group B and will face Scotland in their second match on January 19. England will play Zimbabwe on January 18.
