Trophy Thief Mohsin Naqvi Flees Stadium Mid-Match as Pakistan Suffers Humiliating Defeat to India

Colombo: Pakistan’s crushing defeat at the hands of India in the T20 World Cup 2026 was made even more sensational by the behavior of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Footage from the R. Premadasa Stadium shows Naqvi leaving the venue before the conclusion of the match, sparking widespread ridicule on social media.

Fleeing Amidst the Collapse

As India’s bowlers dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup, Mohammad Nawaz fell in the 12th over, leaving Pakistan reeling at 77/5. Witnessing the inevitable collapse, Naqvi was seen abandoning his VVIP box and heading straight to his car, leaving the stadium well before the final whistle. Fans on social media quickly dubbed his exit a “flight in fear of defeat.”

Missed Opportunity to Mend Relations

Reports suggest that Naqvi had attended the match intending to engage in ice-breaking talks with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, aiming to improve relations between the boards. However, the two were not seen together. Naqvi did meet with Sri Lankan cricket officials, but his previous anti-India statements and the Asia Cup trophy controversy made him a target of criticism from Indian fans. Pakistan’s loss only reinforced the perception that Naqvi had little positive impact on his team’s fortunes.

Controversial Legacy

Mohsin Naqvi’s association with controversies is well-documented. During last year’s Asia Cup, he made headlines when the Indian team reportedly refused to accept the trophy from him, after which he allegedly took it away from the field himself. Recently, threats to boycott India’s matches were also linked to Naqvi-led PCB decisions, further fueling criticism.

Naqvi’s mid-match departure has now become the latest chapter in his controversial tenure, drawing both satire and outrage from cricket fans worldwide.
