New Delhi: Indian cricket fans have reason to celebrate. Virat Kohli’s sublime century against South Africa has pushed him significantly up the ICC ODI batting rankings, bringing him within touching distance of top-ranked Rohit Sharma.
Kohli, who smashed a majestic 135 off 120 balls in Ranchi during the first ODI, has climbed to fourth position in the latest rankings released on Wednesday. With 751 rating points, he is now just 32 points behind Rohit Sharma, who continues to hold the No. 1 spot.
Kohli Eyes the No. 1 Position
The former captain’s recent form has sparked talk of a return to the top of the ODI charts. With at least one more big innings expected in the ongoing series, Kohli is well-placed to push for the No. 1 rank.
Kohli has already retired from Test and T20 formats, choosing to focus exclusively on ODIs — a decision that appears to be paying off. Interestingly, Rohit Sharma is on a similar career path, making their batting rivalry even more gripping ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
At present, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell holds the second spot, while Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran sits at No. 3.
T20I Rankings: Saim Ayub Back at No. 1
In the T20I all-rounder rankings, Pakistan’s Saim Ayub has reclaimed the No. 1 position. His impactful 36-run knock and economical bowling in the tri-series final helped him surpass Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza.
Mohammad Nawaz was named Player of the Tournament and climbed three spots to reach No. 4. Sri Lanka’s Kamil Mishra made the biggest jump, breaking into the T20I top 20 from outside the top 100.
Test Rankings: Marco Jansen Shines
South Africa’s clean sweep in the Test series against India has also shaken up the rankings.
All-rounder Marco Jansen has risen five places to reach a career-best No. 5 among Test bowlers.
He also climbed to second place in the Test all-rounder rankings.
Teammate Simon Harmer, who took 17 wickets in the two-match series, surged 13 spots to reach No. 11.
