The Ashes: Travis Head Blazes at SCG, Smashes Century to Give England a Hammering

Sydney: Australia’s explosive opener Travis Head continued his superb form in Test cricket, scoring a scintillating century in the final Ashes Test against England. On the third day at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), Head reached his hundred in just 105 balls, dominating the English attack with precision and power.

Head’s 12th Test Century
Head had been unbeaten on 91 at stumps on Day 2, and came out with a composed start on Day 3. In the 40th over of Australia’s innings, a well-timed boundary took him past the three-figure mark. This was Head’s 12th Test century and his first at the SCG. Remarkably, he became the first Australian opener since Matthew Hayden in the 2002-03 Ashes to score three centuries in a single Ashes series, having already reached triple figures in Perth and Adelaide earlier this season.

Master of Australian Grounds
With this century, Head now has scored centuries at every Australian ground where he has played, joining the elite list of Australians with the most grounds with Test hundreds:

  • 7 – Steve Waugh
  • 7 – Matthew Hayden
  • 7 – Justin Langer
  • 7 – David Warner
  • 7 – Travis Head

Series Dominance
Head has been the standout performer of this Ashes series. During this innings, he also surpassed 500 runs in the series, with no other batsman even reaching 400. His innings include the two highest scores of the series. By lunch on Day 3, Head had already reached 162 runs, and he had a chance to notch his first double century in Tests, before falling for 163, caught by Jacob Bethel.

In his 166-ball innings, Head struck 24 fours and one six, putting Australia in a commanding position and inflicting severe damage on the English bowlers. His fearless approach underlines his status as one of Australia’s premier Test openers and a key figure in their Ashes dominance.
