Australian captain Pat Cummins made a remarkable comeback in the Ashes series, showcasing his all-round impact with both the ball and leadership. On the fourth day of the Adelaide Test, Cummins dismissed three key England batsmen—Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Joe Root—helping Australia dominate the match.
150 Wickets as Captain
With the wicket of Ollie Pope, Cummins reached a landmark of 150 Test wickets as captain. He first led Australia in Tests in 2021, and becoming a fast-bowling captain in the longest format is a rare feat. This was Cummins’ 38th Test as captain, and he has taken 151 wickets in 69 innings. Cricket Australia entrusted him with captaincy after Tim Paine stepped down, and he has lived up to expectations.
Only Imran Khan Has More
Cummins is now only the second player in cricket history to claim 150 Test wickets as captain. Pakistan legend Imran Khan leads the list with 187 wickets in 48 Tests. Cummins has a clear opportunity to surpass Imran’s record and become the first captain to reach 200 Test wickets. Among Indian players, Kapil Dev holds the record with 111 wickets as captain.
A Hit Both On and Off the Field
Cummins’ leadership credentials are as impressive as his bowling. Under his captaincy, Australia won the World Test Championship and reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by defeating India for the first time since 2014-15. He also successfully led the team to a drawn Ashes series in England, cementing his reputation as a captain who inspires both respect and results.
