Guwahati Test Update
The second Test of the two-match series between India and South Africa is underway at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. While South African batsmen are consolidating their innings, the Indian bowling attack is struggling to make breakthroughs.
Bavuma-Stubs Partnership Thrives
South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma, who won the toss and chose to bat first, is proving his decision right with a solid innings. After dismissals of Aiden Markram by Jasprit Bumrah and Riyan Rickelton by Kuldeep Yadav, Bavuma and Tristan Stubbs formed a strong partnership. By lunch, South Africa was 154/2, with neither batsman dismissed.
DRS Drama Shakes Indian Team
In the second session, Bavuma edged a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja, prompting a loud appeal from the Indian team. The on-field umpire ruled not out, leading Indian captain Rishabh Pant to review the decision with DRS.
However, the DRS showed that the ball was missing the stumps, despite being pitched in line and with impact in line. Jadeja’s eyes widened in disbelief, capturing his astonishment at the near-miss. Pant, too, looked stunned as he watched the replay, unable to comprehend how the wicket was missed. What was expected to be a breakthrough turned into frustration for the Indian team.
Series Context
India had lost the first Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, by 30 runs, giving South Africa a 1-0 lead in the series. The pressure remains on the Indian bowlers to turn things around in Guwahati.
