T20 World Cup: Tilak Varma Fully Fit, Ends India’s Worries Ahead of Title Defence

Star Indian batter Tilak Varma is now fully fit ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026. Sharing a video on Instagram, Tilak gave fans and cricket enthusiasts a glimpse of his preparations.

With just a week left for the start of the T20 World Cup, Team India, the defending champions, are gearing up to defend their title on home soil. One of the biggest concerns for the team was whether Tilak Varma, who underwent surgery for testicular torsion, would recover in time for the tournament. Fortunately, the Hyderabad batter has returned to full fitness.

In the video shared on Friday, Tilak can be seen batting aggressively against fast bowlers and even trying his hand at bowling. His return is a massive boost for Team India, as he remains a key player in the T20 setup.

Selection Dilemma: Tilak Varma and Ishan Kishan

In Tilak’s absence, Ishan Kishan impressed at the No. 3 spot in India’s first three T20 matches against New Zealand. Now, it will be interesting to see how the Indian team management accommodates both Tilak and Ishan in the playing XI. One possibility is that Ishan could open in place of Sanju Samson, allowing Tilak to reclaim the No. 3 position.

Impressive Record

Tilak Varma last played on 19 December 2025 against South Africa in Ahmedabad, scoring a fluent 73 runs off 42 balls at No. 3. Since his T20 debut against the West Indies in Trinidad in 2023, Tilak has played 40 matches, scoring 1,183 runs, including two consecutive centuries against South Africa in November 2024 and six fifties.

With his fitness restored, Tilak Varma is expected to join the Indian squad next week, bringing confidence to fans that India could continue its winning streak in this year’s T20 World Cup.
