The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the dates for the T20 World Cup 2026, set to begin on 7 February 2026, with the final scheduled for 8 March 2026. While the official match fixtures are yet to be confirmed, media reports suggest that the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match could take place on 15 February 2026 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Tournament Venues and Key Matches
The BCCI is reported to have submitted the tentative schedule to the ICC, which is awaiting final approval. According to the plan, the semi-final matches will be held in Mumbai, while the final will take place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
India’s First Match Against USA
India is expected to kick off its campaign against the United States. Following the controversy over India not touring Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, an agreement between the BCCI and PCB was reached to play matches at neutral venues. As a result, all Pakistan matches, including the T20 World Cup 2026 clash against India, are likely to be played in Colombo.
Knockout Stage and Pakistan’s Venue
Media reports indicate that knockout matches will primarily be held in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The first semi-final is set for 5 March at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The venue for the second semi-final will depend on whether Pakistan or Sri Lanka advance. If Pakistan reaches the semi-final, the match could shift to Colombo, and a similar arrangement applies to Sri Lanka.
Bengaluru Excluded from T20 World Cup Matches
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, will not host any World Cup matches. This decision follows the tragic stampede during celebrations after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru won IPL 2025, which resulted in dozens of fatalities. For T20 World Cup 2026, India’s matches will be held in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata, while Sri Lanka’s venues will include Colombo, Pallekele, and either Dambulla or Hambantota.
Fans around the world will be eagerly watching as the T20 World Cup 2026 promises thrilling cricket action, highlighted by the classic India-Pakistan rivalry in a neutral venue.
