T20 World Cup 2026: BCCI Says, “We Will Follow ICC’s Decision” Amid Pakistan Boycott Speculation

NEW DELHI/COLOMBO: Clouds of uncertainty hovered over the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash in the T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled for February 15 in Colombo. Pakistan had earlier hinted at boycotting the group-stage match, sparking widespread speculation and concern in the cricketing world. However, signs now suggest a softening of Pakistan’s stance.

BCCI Takes Official Stand
Speaking to the media during a dinner hosted at Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir’s residence in New Delhi, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla clarified the Board’s position. “We will follow whatever the ICC decides,” Shukla stated unequivocally, emphasizing that the Indian Board has placed the matter entirely in the hands of the tournament organizers. This stance signals BCCI’s intent to stay clear of the political and diplomatic tensions surrounding the fixture, leaving all decisions to the International Cricket Council.

Pakistan Signals Change of Heart
Pakistan’s initial decision to skip the match in Colombo came as a major shock to the cricketing fraternity. Reports suggested the move was in solidarity with Bangladesh, which had cited security concerns as a reason for refusing to travel to India. However, following discussions between the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Pakistan is now reportedly willing to play the match, paving the way for the marquee clash to proceed.

Team India Focused on Cricket
Amid off-field controversies, the Indian team remains fully focused on cricket. On Sunday evening, head coach Gautam Gambhir hosted a team dinner in Delhi to boost morale and foster cohesion ahead of India’s next match against Namibia. After a resounding win over the USA in the tournament opener, the squad, led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, looks balanced and determined to secure a second consecutive victory at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
