T20 World Cup 2026: Australia Hit by Injury Blow as Tim David Ruled Out of Big Bash

New Delhi: With the T20 World Cup 2026 set to begin on 7 February in India and Sri Lanka, Australia has received a major setback. Explosive batter Tim David has been ruled out of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) due to a hamstring injury, raising concerns ahead of the global tournament.

Tim David, representing Hobart Hurricanes, suffered a Grade 2 strain in his right hamstring while running between the wickets during a match against Perth Scorchers. The Hurricanes confirmed the injury, stating, “Tim David has sustained a Grade 2 strain in his right hamstring during a recent Big Bash match and will be unavailable for the remaining games of the tournament.”

Experience in Indian Conditions

Despite the setback, hopes remain that David will recover in time for the T20 World Cup. His experience in India is significant, having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore last season and previously for Mumbai Indians. The 29-year-old has scored 846 runs in the IPL at an average of 33 and a strike rate of 173, making him a key middle-order power-hitter.

Career Highlights

Before representing Australia, David played T20 Internationals for Singapore. In 68 matches, he has amassed 1,596 runs from 58 innings at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 169, including one century and nine half-centuries. Known as a T20 specialist, he has played in leagues worldwide and has scored over 6,136 runs in T20 cricket at a strike rate exceeding 162.

With the World Cup approaching in just over a month, Australia will be hoping for a speedy recovery for Tim David to bolster their batting lineup in challenging conditions.
