Steve Smith Smashes Rapid Century in Big Bash Despite Missing T20 World Cup and IPL Auction

Sydney: Australian cricket superstar Steve Smith showcased his devastating form in the Big Bash League, hitting a blistering century for Sydney Sixers in just 41 balls. The 36-year-old, who is not part of Australia’s T20 World Cup squad and went unsold in the IPL auction, displayed why he remains one of the most feared batsmen in the world.

Opening against Sydney Thunder, Smith reached his century in just 41 deliveries, marking the joint third-fastest century in Big Bash history. It is also the fastest century ever by a Sydney Sixers player. This innings became Smith’s fourth T20 hundred.

Fastest Big Bash Centuries:

  • Craig Simmons – 39 balls
  • Mitchell Owen – 39 balls
  • Steve Smith – 41 balls
  • Josh Brown – 41 balls
  • Glenn Maxwell – 41 balls

Smith’s explosive knock included 5 fours and 9 sixes. He reached his century in 42 balls, while teammate Babar Azam, who opened with him, struggled to keep pace, scoring 47 runs off 39 balls.

The highlight of the innings came against right-arm pacer Ryan Headley, where Smith smashed four consecutive sixes off four balls. In the 12th over, he hit four sixes and one four, adding two extra runs, making it a monumental 32-run over — the most expensive in Big Bash history.

Despite being overlooked for the T20 World Cup and missing out on the IPL, Steve Smith’s thunderous performance reminded the cricketing world of his unmatched hitting prowess.
