New Delhi: Indian cricket legend Sourav Ganguly, one of the most successful captains in India’s cricketing history, has been appointed head coach of Pretoria Capitals for the SA20 league. The fourth season of the tournament begins on 26th December, with Pretoria Capitals yet to win the title in previous editions.
Captain Keshav Maharaj expressed his excitement about working with Ganguly and former all-rounder Shaun Pollock. Speaking to the press, Maharaj said,
“This is my first year with Pretoria Capitals, and I’ve had some conversations with Sourav sir, so I’m genuinely very excited. Pretoria is generally a high-scoring venue, so as a bowler, you want to find ways to handle it while letting the batsmen play their game. It’s really thrilling. Our coaching staff includes some legends of the game, and I’m looking forward to learning from their knowledge and energy once the competition begins.”
Ganguly brings a wealth of experience and strategic insight to the team, which Maharaj hopes will help Pretoria Capitals perform strongly in this season.
Additionally, South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada described the tournament as a perfect opportunity to prepare for next year’s T20 World Cup. Having missed the recent India tour due to a rib injury, Rabada said,
“Playing in this tournament is a great chance to get match practice and adapt to the T20 format. We haven’t played much T20 cricket this year, so it promises to be an exciting tournament. Teams have learned what balance is needed to perform in different conditions here in South Africa over the last three seasons.”
With a mix of experienced players and cricketing legends in the coaching staff, Pretoria Capitals aim to make a strong impact in the upcoming SA20 season.
