Smriti Mandhana Breaks Silence After Cancelled Wedding, Reflects on Cricket Journey and World Cup Triumph

New Delhi: India’s star opener and World Cup-winning women’s cricketer Smriti Mandhana opened up for the first time following the cancellation of her wedding. Speaking at the Amazon Sambhav Summit, Mandhana reflected on her 12-year cricket journey, revealing that the sport has always been her top priority and the Team India jersey remains her biggest motivation.

Passion for the Jersey and the Dream of Being a World Champion

Making her international debut in 2013, Mandhana said, “I don’t think anything has been bigger for me than cricket. Wearing the India jersey is the ultimate motivation. No matter what challenges you face, it makes you forget everything else.” Recalling her childhood dreams, she added, “My passion for batting has always been there… All I ever wanted was to be recognized as a World Champion.”

World Cup Victory: A Triumph for Women’s Cricket

Mandhana played a pivotal role in India’s recent World Cup victory, describing it as the result of years of hard work and resilience. “The trophy represents everything we fought for. Before the final, we visualized that moment repeatedly, and when it finally came on the screen, it gave us goosebumps. It was emotional in every sense,” she said. The victory became even more special with legends Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami watching from the stands. Mandhana noted, “Seeing tears in their eyes made us realize this was a victory for all of women’s cricket, not just us.”

Lessons from Victory

Reflecting on her journey, Mandhana shared two important lessons: “Always start from zero, no matter your past scores, and never play just for yourself. These are the things we constantly remind each other.”

This event marked Mandhana’s first public appearance after confirming the cancellation of her wedding with musician Palash Muchhal, showing her focus remains firmly on cricket and her enduring love for the sport.
