
Ahmedabad: Jharkhand wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan once again knocked on the doors of Team India selectors with a scintillating performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT 2025). Playing at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, Kishan unleashed a fiery innings of 93 runs off just 50 balls, smashing the Saurashtra bowling attack with dominance. Despite his aggressive display, the Mumbai Indians star narrowly missed a century by 7 runs.
Opening the batting for Jharkhand on Ground B of the Narendra Modi International Stadium, Kishan attacked from the very first ball. He struck 11 fours and 3 sixes, maintaining a strike rate of 186 before being caught by Ruchir Ahir off Saurashtra pacer Jaydev Unadkat. His innings was marked by clean, powerful strokes that left the opposition bowlers struggling to contain him.
With this innings, Kishan has risen to third place in the runs chart of SMAT 2025, scoring 217 runs in 4 matches, including 1 century and 1 fifty. Ahead of him are 18-year-old Ayush Mahatre (253 runs) and K. Chandala (229 runs), both of whom have hit consecutive centuries this season. Kishan’s tally includes 24 fours and 11 sixes, with an outstanding strike rate of 263.29 across four matches.
In another surprising result at Ground A, Tripura stunned Delhi, defeating them by 12 runs. Tripura posted 157/5 in 20 overs, and restricted Delhi to 145/8, producing one of the season’s biggest upsets.
SMAT 2025 continues to showcase high-octane T20 action, with young stars like Ishan Kishan making their mark and emerging teams causing major surprises.
