New Delhi, December 25: During the closing ceremony of the MPs Sports Festival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a virtual conversation with young athletes from across the country. In a heartwarming moment, 14-year-old Kabaddi player Shanti Kumari from Assam asked the Prime Minister to repeat his question, bringing a smile to his face.
Shanti, hailing from the Darang-Udalguri Lok Sabha constituency, was one of the athletes selected by the local MP, Dilip Saikia, to interact with PM Modi. As the conversation began, the Prime Minister greeted her and asked her to share a little about herself and why she had chosen Kabaddi. Shanti, however, appeared slightly puzzled and politely requested, “Sir, please repeat the question.” The innocent request made PM Modi chuckle.
Encouragement and Advice from the PM
Shanti shared that she plays both Cycling Polo and Kabaddi. Impressed by her versatility, PM Modi encouraged her to continue excelling in both sports, advising her to eventually make a thoughtful choice when the time comes. He said, “India has no shortage of talent. Play both sports well and make them your strength. Keep practicing diligently. I also wish you success in your 10th-grade exams and hope you make the country proud in the future.”
Inspiring Young Athletes Across Sports
During the event, PM Modi also motivated young boxer Neeraj to win medals for the country, lightening the moment with humor. He assured him that there was no pressure, emphasizing that the government would provide all necessary support for training, nutrition, and opportunities.
Showcasing India’s Sporting Potential
The MPs Sports Festival, held from December 23–25, highlighted the nation’s young talent. PM Modi praised the athletes for their enthusiasm, drive, and skill, noting that India has created an environment where selections are based on merit and talent, not connections. He reiterated that even children from underprivileged families can reach the highest levels in sports.
This engaging interaction with Shanti Kumari reflects the PM’s commitment to nurturing young talent and inspiring the next generation of Indian athletes.
