India faced a humiliating 2-0 defeat against South Africa in the recently concluded Test series, drawing sharp criticism for both players and coach Gautam Gambhir. After the series loss, Indian Test captain Shubman Gill finally spoke out, posting a strong and motivational message on social media.
Gill, who missed both Tests due to a neck injury sustained during the Kolkata Test, tweeted:
“A calm sea does not make a skilled sailor; it is the storm that builds strong hands. We will continue to trust each other, fight for each other, and move forward – emerging stronger.”
Gill’s absence proved a significant setback. In the first Test at Kolkata, he retired hurt during India’s first innings, and the team narrowly lost by 30 runs. Despite treatment under the BCCI medical team, Gill could not participate in the second Test at Guwahati, where vice-captain Rishabh Pant led India to a crushing 408-run defeat.
Gill is expected to miss the remaining Tests this year. While India’s next Test match is still months away, preparations to rebound must start immediately. South Africa’s victory on Indian soil marks a historic moment, their first series win in India in 25 years. The team will need to regroup and reclaim its dominance at home in the months ahead.
