Scotland will replace Bangladesh in the 2026 T20 World Cup, with the full squad now officially announced. The team features an Afghanistan-born player making his debut, as well as a former New Zealand international.
Scotland Gets a World Cup Spot
Scotland missed out on direct qualification after an underwhelming performance in the qualifiers. However, with Bangladesh excluded from the tournament, Scotland was granted a place based on their superior ranking among the non-qualifying teams.
Leadership and Key Players
Richie Berrington will captain the side, with 11 players from the 2024 World Cup squad retained. In the previous T20 World Cup held in the USA and West Indies, Scotland won two of their four matches but missed the Super 8 stage due to a poor net run rate.
Tom Bruce, Finlay McCreath, and Oliver Davidson will make their World Cup debuts. Tom Bruce, 34, previously played 17 T20 Internationals for New Zealand between 2017 and 2020, scoring 279 runs with two half-centuries.
Afghanistan-Born Player Makes Debut
Jainullah Ehsan, 19, who was born in Afghanistan, has been included in the Scotland squad for the first time. Ehsan received refugee status in the UK in 2022 and became eligible to play for Scotland last year. He has previously represented Scotland Under-19s and is primarily a fast bowler.
