Former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has made controversial remarks ahead of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled for 15 February at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
Initially, the Pakistan government had announced a boycott of the match against India, aligning with Bangladesh’s stance. However, in a surprising U-turn, Pakistan later confirmed their participation, setting the stage for one of cricket’s most intense rivalries.
Saqlain Mushtaq’s Controversial Comments
During a talk show in Pakistan, when asked about the pitch for the India-Pakistan encounter, Saqlain made remarks that have raised eyebrows. He said:
“With the kind of technology and modern-day groundsmen involved, things can change. We know whose influence the ICC is under.”
These statements have ignited debates among fans and cricket analysts alike, raising questions about impartiality and fair play in ICC events.
Pakistan’s Form in T20 World Cup 2026
Despite the controversy, Pakistan has had a strong start in the tournament, defeating the Netherlands and the USA in their opening matches. Historically, Pakistan has managed to beat India only once in the T20 World Cup, with their last victory coming in 2022. Based on recent form and statistics, Team India remains the favorites for the upcoming clash.
India’s Dominance in Asia Cup 2025
India’s superiority over Pakistan was evident during the Asia Cup 2025, where India defeated Pakistan three times, including the final. The tournament was also marred by off-field controversies, including Pakistan refusing to shake hands after matches. After India’s victory, the trophy was handed over to Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Asian Cricket Council and PCB President, as the Indian team declined to accept it directly.
With tensions both on and off the field, the India-Pakistan encounter in Colombo promises high drama, intense cricketing action, and passionate fan engagement.
