Sanju Samson to Wear Jersey No. 11 for Chennai Super Kings; Franchise Confirms in New Video

In a major pre-IPL 2026 development, Rajasthan Royals traded long-time captain Sanju Samson to Chennai Super Kings, receiving star all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran in return. The trade sparked huge discussions across the cricketing world. Now, CSK has officially revealed the jersey number their latest signing will wear.

Samson to Don No. 11 Jersey for CSK

The franchise released a video on social media showcasing Sanju Samson in CSK’s iconic yellow kit. In the clip, Samson is seen wearing jersey number 11, confirming that he will continue with the same number he wore at Rajasthan Royals.

For India, however, Samson wears jersey number 9, while Mohammed Shami dons number 11 in the national side.

No Captaincy Role for Samson at CSK

Despite leading Rajasthan Royals for the last five seasons, Samson will not captain Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026. CSK has reaffirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue as captain.
Gaikwad took over the role from MS Dhoni in 2024. Last season, when Gaikwad was ruled out mid-tournament due to injury, Dhoni briefly returned as captain. With Gaikwad, Samson, and Dhoni all in the squad for 2026, the franchise has made it clear that Gaikwad remains their long-term leader.

Sanju Samson’s IPL Career So Far

At 31, Samson brings vast IPL experience to Chennai. He has played 177 matches, scoring 4704 runs at a strike rate of 139.1. He has registered 3 centuries and 26 half-centuries, establishing himself as one of the most consistent performers in the league.
