New Delhi: India suffered a disappointing 76-run defeat to South Africa in their Super-8 T20 World Cup 2026 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy, the defending champions were completely outplayed, marking their first loss of the tournament. The defeat surprised fans, as India had been performing strongly in the earlier matches.
Manjrekar Points Out India’s Mistakes
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to analyze the loss and suggest steps for recovery. Manjrekar thanked South Africa for exposing India’s weaknesses and laid out three key points for improvement:
- Promote Batters Skilled Against Spin – Manjrekar emphasized the need to bring in batsmen capable of handling spin effectively in the top order, especially those with strong “soft skills” to build partnerships.
- Improve Throwdowns Practice – He pointed out that Indian batsmen must face more varied throwdowns, including slower balls, to better handle diverse bowling.
- Include Another Wicket-Taking Option – Manjrekar stressed the importance of playing Kuldeep Yadav or a similar option to strengthen India’s bowling attack.
India’s Next Challenge: Zimbabwe
India now faces Zimbabwe on February 26 in Chennai at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Zimbabwe remains unbeaten in the tournament, having defeated both Australia and Sri Lanka, making this a crucial must-win for India to keep semifinal hopes alive.
