Former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has opened up about one of the most emotional and challenging phases of her life — her divorce from Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. Speaking candidly on the first episode of her new YouTube talk show, “Serving It Up with Sania,” the 37-year-old revealed how she suffered panic attacks during that time and how filmmaker Farah Khan stood by her as a pillar of strength.
“I Was Shaking, But Farah Held Me Together”
Sania recalled the dark days following her separation, saying,
“It was one of the lowest points of my life. I don’t usually say these things on camera, but there was a moment when I was completely broken. Farah came to my set that day, and I had a live show right after. I was shaking… I wouldn’t have been able to go through with it if she hadn’t been there. She told me, ‘It’s okay, you’re going to do this show.’ That meant everything.”
Farah Khan’s Unconditional Support
Responding to Sania’s revelation, Farah Khan too got emotional as she recalled the incident.
“I was really scared seeing her like that,” Farah said. “I was supposed to be shooting that day, but I dropped everything and went to her in my pajamas and slippers. I just wanted to be there for my friend.”
The filmmaker also praised Sania’s courage as a single mother, saying,
“It takes double the effort to raise a child alone — to work, to be present, to give your son everything he needs. Sania is doing it with so much grace and strength.”
A Journey of Strength and Self-Resilience
Sania and Shoaib married in April 2010, and their son Izhaan Mirza Malik was born in 2018. In January 2024, Sania’s family officially confirmed her separation from Malik, shortly after he announced his marriage to Pakistani actress Sana Javed.
Despite personal turmoil, Sania has continued to inspire millions with her poise and resilience, proving once again why she remains one of India’s most admired sports icons.
