Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha has made a striking statement regarding the ongoing controversy involving Bangladesh, just days before the start of the T20 World Cup.
Agha’s Strong Message on Bangladesh
The T20 World Cup has already witnessed significant turmoil, and tensions continue to rise. Following the removal of Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL, the Bangladesh cricket team refused to travel to India for the tournament. Pakistan has since issued repeated warnings to the ICC, and the Pakistani government even announced that their team would not play against India in the tournament. Amid this backdrop, Salman Ali Agha has expressed his thoughts on Bangladesh’s situation.
Agha conveyed deep regret over Bangladesh being excluded from the tournament. After Bangladesh declined to travel to India citing security concerns, the ICC removed them from the World Cup, replacing them with Scotland in Group C. This decision disappointed fans and sparked a new dispute among South Asian nations.
During a press conference, Agha praised Bangladeshi fans, calling them “like our brothers.” He said:
“We are grateful for their support. It is truly sad that they are not part of this World Cup, but I hope they continue cheering for us throughout the tournament.”
Pakistan Government Takes a Firm Stand
The seriousness of the situation is underscored by Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif taking a strong position. While Pakistan confirmed its participation in the tournament, the team will withdraw from the high-voltage match against India on 15 February in Colombo in solidarity with Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that politics should not interfere on the playing field, and this decision reflects Pakistan’s support for Bangladesh.
The unfolding events have added a new layer of tension to the T20 World Cup, leaving cricket fans across the region watching closely as diplomatic and sporting lines intersect.
